La Huelga

So Spain decided to have a national strike this Thursday, the day I was supposed to fly to London. Thanks a lot. We are now leaving tomorrow, which means I have to do everything I was planning on doing tomorrow, today. Needless to say, I’m a bit overwhelmed.

Last week, two of our friends from Michigan who are studying abroad in Florence visited. It was such a treat to see them. My friend Carly came with her family who treated us to dinner, which was beyond nice. Families always seem to comfort and entertain, even if it’s not yours. But hanging out with Carly’s family made me miss my own family!

I went to Malaga and Puerto Banus (in Marbella) this weekend.

The weather was cloudy and similar to the summer marine layer in “sunny” PV, but it was still nice to get away. Some friends and I stayed in a hotel where we took the most luxurious showers ever (I haven’t felt that clean since getting here) and had the best night sleeps. The area reminded me a lot of Southern California; I felt like I was driving down PCH in Malibu at one point. I wouldn’t say the beaches are the most beautiful beaches in the world, but I still enjoyed being near the ocean and listening to the waves. Relaxing days are definitely needed to rejuvenate. I even got a pedicure! Friday night we met up with a friend who was traveling with her wealthy Indian boyfriend for a week. He took us to a nightclub and bought us a table with bottle service – what a treat! Tiredness eventually kicked in so two of my friends and I kept pouring drinks and placing them on random tables, so it looked like the alcohol was being drunk and he wasn’t wasting his money. Although I’m guessing from his Hermes belt and Louis Vuitton shoes that he didn’t really care about the cost. Saturday we didn’t get out of bed till 3pm. I know, but I hadn’t slept more than 6 hours a night in about 3 weeks.  I’ve realized that if you continue doing things, you often don’t realize how tired you are. But once you stop your activity, you immediately feel that wave of tiredness rush over your body.

I still can’t believe how amazing and awesome my life is right now. I’m so excited to go to London and Amsterdam. I’ll be gone till next Friday, so you won’t hear from me! Enjoy the week.
